Memorable Senior Moments

of Dianna L. Brumfield

Creativity

My God word for today was “Creator.” As I examined that concept, I immediately thought about being made in His image. I have been made to be creative.

Part of that gift of creativity is the requirement for change, growth, and transformation. We really can’t be creative like our Maker, without the willingness to adapt or to update.

Did I actually use that ugly word update? As much as I’ve complained lately about this dreaded experience, I have begun to realize that it is indeed a needed phenomenon.

I’ve run into this recently in my attempts to learn an updated writing program. I had been perfectly content to continue to do things in the accustomed manner from now until Jesus calls me home. However, I see a need to accept the inevitable adjustments brought about by, yes, I admit it, needed change.

It means letting go of preconceived ideas and processes that are oh so comfortable. Their very familiarity makes them appear to be old friends, ones with which I already know their response to my input.

Changing means that I have to stretch those gray cells and be the new kid on the block who has to learn how to fit into a different environment. Meanwhile, I just want to have an easy fix as I struggle with which place to click or hover.

Nevertheless, updating is good. It requires new ideas, brain pathways, and opportunities for creativity. It offers alternate ways to spread the Good News or give a word of encouragement. Especially is the latter helpful to those fellow sufferers of transition to our technical age. We will not let this challenge defeat us, if we can gear up for the unavoidable modifications. Our creative God will help us to keep our courage with going forward into a challenging future.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 ESV
