Memorable Senior Moments

of Dianna L. Brumfield

God's Perfect Condo Gift

My husband and I caught our breath after settling down in our new condo. Gratitude overwhelmed us! This major movement had been completed successfully by the Great Choreographer, God. For the first time in years, my mate and I were debt-free. A thousand-pound weight lifted off our shoulders!
We soon realized this new status only comprised the first of many blessings to follow. My husband’s yard work which had become such a burden since his heart attack soon would fade into a faint memory. Our new set-up provided all these services and more, so he could relax without guilt. My housework had also shrunk with a third less rooms to clean. In the winter, we could now enjoy watching the snow fall from our fourth floor balcony without the dread of shoveling it.
Location, Location, Location
Our location couldn’t be more ideal for an aging couple. God had provided every need we could foresee through various stores within walking distance. This included: groceries, medicine, books, restaurants, and even an ice cream parlor. Right next door stood a church, which I later learned held free exercise classes for Seniors. What touched my heart the most, though, came when we noticed an emergency clinic as well as a fire station close by. Since our former neighborhood paramedics had saved my husband’s life during his heart attack, it gave us a special sense of God’s care.
Security
Our safety factor increased with locked mail boxes near the entry and a keyed door to the elevator. Guests or salesmen needed to call us from the intercom so we could trip the door.
Social Benefits
The condo had neighbors around our age, with events held throughout the year at the club house. We attended Home Owner’s Association meetings as well as a cookie and gift exchange at Christmas. In the summer, we plan to make use of the pool, where we’ll no doubt meet more residents.
Future Provisions
We’ve noticed the majority of our fellow condo dwellers are retired people, with a large number of widows. This fact brought relief to my mate whose main goal concerned giving me a positive set-up if he passes. I’m anxious to make new acquaintances, especially for my future retirement years. Right now, I’m happy to be closer to my two good friends, which is a special bonus. Our proximity allows us to carpool to mutual groups, go for walks, or have lunch out at nearby Condo 001restaurants.
The other day, my spouse asked me, “Honey, do you miss our old house? I’m surprised to say I don’t.”
I answered, “This place is such a blessing, I haven’t even thought about it.”
God’s perfect condo gift with all its attached blessings simply cannot be compared.
