I write out my daily tasks: clean fish tank, buy groceries, dust and vacuum, wash clothes, do Bible study, make soup. Since I don’t have to pick up my grandsons from school as usual, this should fill the hole in my schedule. As I stare at the list, I wonder why it is necessary to keep a packed trail of daily activities.
Maybe it’s because of the discovery I made last night about my best friend, who is my main source of social pursuits. God is leading her to some spiritual training on the other side of the country for a whole nine months. Who knows where the Lord will take her from there.
She is my primary means of fellowship and entertainment. Who else will join me for walks on sunny afternoons, share dinners or Christian movies? What other friend can I find to faithfully listen to my latest blog and cheer me on to publish articles in the paper? It’s not easy to run into another person who understands and cares about my concerns and is willing to pray with and for me. She even prayed for me to find another friend to replace her which says a lot about her generous attitude.
Wouldn’t you know, my gracious God provided the answer for me the very next day. As I read “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young, it stated:
“Instead of trying to create a mental map of your path through this day, focus on My Loving Presence with you. I will equip you as you go, so that you can handle whatever comes your way. Trust me to supply what you need when you need it.”
Some of the noted scriptures also brought an answer to my dilemma:
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. . .For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever. Though He brings grief, He also shows compassion because of the greatness of His unfailing love (Lamentations 3:25,26, 31,32 NLT). ”
Perhaps as the Lord leads my friend to new paths of service, He will do the same for me in a different area of ministry and place. I’m going to lean into His presence for direction and stop overfilling my schedule to leave room for what He provides. What are your plans for me today, Lord?
