Resurrection power: these two words bring great hope and comfort for those of us with unsaved family members. Resurrection power is what Jesus used to bring Lazarus back to life. This power can bring those who are dead in their sins into life in Christ.
Just think, your unsaved loved one might even now be in the process of rebirth! Perhaps they are somewhere in the course of labor to bring them out into life eternal. Instead of the mother’s experience of birth pains, the one that is reborn feels the discomfort of the battle with old demons and the choice to die to self. These are all signs of their eventual entrance into the kingdom where their new life begins.
If this power can overcome death itself, it is certainly able to work in our lives to bring beauty out of ashes, victory out of defeat, life out of death! I ‘ve heard so many stories from my Christian brothers and sisters who have come from abuse. Then they become champions of their fellow victims, bringing the freedom of forgiveness and new life. Women who’ve experienced abortion receive healing and forgiveness and because of that power, turn to others who still suffer in shame and secrecy. Prisoners to porn and drug addiction find release and joy as they celebrate their recoveries, sharing hope with other addicts.
Jesus came to people like these with the good news that He has taken their sins upon Himself, as He shouldered their cross. His blood ran down from His pierced head and wounds while He stumbled down the streets to Calvary. As he suffered on the cross even though others mocked, gambled, and denied Him, He forgave their ignorance.
The day after Passover, some women found His tomb empty. Resurrection power had brought His predicted victory to pass. He is risen! He is alive! He finished His job here on earth and continues at His Father’s right hand to pray for each of us to have the same resurrection power. The Holy Spirit invades our hearts and minds when we turn to Jesus in faith and believe. He brings light out of darkness, conquering sin and death, forevermore, when we tap into that power.
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:25, 26 ESV).
