As one grows into their senior years, the areas of entertainment narrow somewhat depending on your financial resources and health. I’m one of the many older folks on a fixed income, a widow of advanced years, so i find this to be true. However, the variety of activities and their number is not affected by the degree of joy they can bring.
All this to describe myself as a veggie freak. Not only do I enjoy trying out new vegetarian recipes, but now I’m fully involved with the production of those same food sources. My zucchinis are popping out in three separate containers. To my delight, I have discovered two summer squash plants among them.
My current garden is developing well, each veggie in its appointed tote. My zucchinis are popping out in three separate containers. To my delight, I have discovered two summer squash plants among them.
This is not my only discovery. Little did I suspect while I was madly tearing into an over-ripe pumpkin to add to my compost, that it would reappear. Some volunteer pumpkins have intruded themselves here and there.
“Surprise,” they seem to be saying, “here I am amidst your lettuce, or over here, slipping behind a zucchini leaf.”
I decided to take advantage of the bonus and transplanted about a dozen or so in several pots. If they survive, I may be handing out pumpkins to neighbors this fall.
